Booker Longlist 2009

The list has finally been revealed – at 15:45 of all times?

Here we go -

Byatt, AS                      The Children’s Book

Coetzee, J M               Summertime

Foulds, Adam              The Quickening Maze

Hall, Sarah                   How to paint a dead man

Harvey, Samantha      The Wilderness

Lever, James                Me Cheeta

Mantel, Hilary              Wolf Hall

Mawer, Simon             The Glass Room

O’Loughlin, Ed             Not Untrue & Not Unkind

Scudamore, James      Heliopolis

Toibin, Colm                Brooklyn

Trevor, William             Love and Summer

Waters, Sarah              The Little Stranger

A strange but potentially fantastic(al) mix methinks.

I’ll be starting with Not Untrue & Not Unkind.

Happy reading!

Booker Fever

I have been on the Booker website all morning.

I have subscribed to the newsletter, and gone hunting for twitter tags.

I think I may have a problem…

Who belongs?

Another new group has been launched today to encourage a yes vote for Lisbon 2.

The group is called ‘We Belong‘ and seems to be very new-media and celeb-endorsement focussed, which is fair enough.

Unfortunately their endorsements are forcing me to do what I almost never do… post images on a blog (gulp, etc):

I’m all for first-day f-ups, but that’s a fairly basic one right there.

Makes me wonder if Pat Gilroy and Mick Galwey really mean what they said on the same page…?

Back to… grey…

It’s grey and it’s raining. Welcome home to summer in Ireland! Despite my cynicism, it is nice to be back. That should read, despite my cynicism, and the mound of work on my desk. Crosaire-er-y will resume tonight or tomorrow.

Two quick links that distracted me today, if you’ll forgive the uber-tardiness… This letter, and this article.

Others have linked before me and will hopefully do so again but the former and probably the latter should be required reading.

Because it’s not okay.
